THANK YOU BRUCE
“First, I would like to thank Bruce Springsteen.”
If my novel is published The Boss will figure high in the acknowledgements.
I’d never heard of Bruce until I was in my first year of university and someone gave me free tickets to his concert at Maple Leaf Gardens. We sat two rows from the roof, but I heard him loud and clear.
He told me to dream and I listened. But life got in the way. Had kids, and dogs. And mortgage payments and hockey tournaments.
But the thing about Bruce - that guy doesn't quit. Everytime I was content to leave my dream of writing a novel on the shelf, Bruce would show up. Releasing album after album. Writing a memoir. A sold-out run on Broadway. Another album, another tour. There's no avoiding him. And everytime, he'd resurrect that promise I made to myself when I was 18 -- that I wouldn't give up on my dream.
So there I was in my 50's. I probably haven't aged as well as Bruce, but who has?
But I thought – I have to try. And I did.
I’ll let you know how it works out.
-Sue.
